?A button that turns back time
Gamers have always wished they could easily undo the last move or action in a game, and this can indeed provide them with significant advantages, especially in single-player games. It seems that Sony plans to implement something similar by adding a button to the controller that allows players to quickly undo their last action.
Data suggests that the Japanese company has obtained a patent for this button, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published the patent on October 31, noting that Sony submitted the application about a year and a half ago. To activate this feature, players will need to press or hold the new button on the controller, which will replace the share button on current PlayStation controllers. This will allow them to rewind in time instantly, whether in actual gameplay or while viewing recorded videos.
The idea of rewinding a game isn't new in the video game industry, but integrating this feature directly into the controller is quite intriguing. This might mean that Sony plans to release a specific game to showcase this incredible feature and wants developers to start incorporating it into their future projects once it is officially added to their devices.
However, it's important to understand that the rewind button won't work with all types of games. For example, multiplayer games that require synchronization between many online players won't support this feature, at least with the current technologies.
But when considering the application of this new feature in single-player games, especially those based on a story, we can say that we have seen something similar in the Active Time Lore system of Final Fantasy XVI, which allows players to pause and update themselves on the most important story elements of the current scene.
The Active Time Lore system has proven to be very useful in staying connected with the sprawling, detail-rich story. So what if we used the rewind feature for such events?
