The latest film released in the Resident Evil series was in 2021, titled Welcome to Raccoon City, directed by Johannes Roberts. It aimed to stay true to the games, but unfortunately, it didn’t match the quality of the Capcom game series.

The upcoming film will be directed by Zach Cregger and will tell the original story of the video games, focusing on all its details. It will be categorized as a horror film and produced by PlayStation Productions, though the release date has not been confirmed yet.

A report from *The Hollywood Reporter* states that a bidding war has erupted over who will distribute Cregger's film from the classic survival horror game series by *Capcom*, with Cregger also writing and directing the film. According to the report, four studios are competing for distribution rights, including Netflix and Warner Bros.

Like the previous films by Anderson and *Welcome to Raccoon City*, Constantin Film will produce the upcoming reboot alongside PlayStation Productions. Sony established PlayStation Productions in 2019 to help oversee the adaptation of some of its games into films, including *Uncharted* starring Tom Holland, *Gran Turismo*, and the series *The Last of Us* and *Twisted Metal*.

Upcoming projects from PlayStation Productions include *Until Dawn*, *Days Gone*, *Ghost of Tsushima*, *Gravity Rush*, *Helldivers*, *Horizon Zero Dawn*, and a sequel to *Uncharted*. There is also a *God of War* series in the works, along with a recently announced *Ghost of Tsushima* anime series.
